I regularly use the X4 for electric scooter tests, 360° shots and filming on the move, including with a chest strap. I bought it myself in November 2024.

What I appreciate

I appreciate its image quality, ease of use and how well it works in the field. Shooting in 360° lets me record without getting the framing perfect at the time, then reframe the footage afterwards. I also find the built-in microphone delivers very good audio.

Limitations and reliability

In low light, 8K is not always my best choice: 5.7K+ often gives me cleaner results. I check for dust and smudges beneath the lens guards. The camera gets warm during sustained use, but this has not caused me any particular trouble. Since buying it, I have had no reliability issues or notable battery-life problems.

Yes, I still recommend the X4, particularly when it costs substantially less than a newer generation. When prices are close, it makes sense to consider the latest model.

My main audio system

RØDE Wireless PRO

I bought the RØDE Wireless PRO myself in April 2026. It is my main audio system for Le Tech, and I use it with the official X4 microphone adapter. It was never given to me for free, and there is no RØDE partnership connected to this product.

Audio quality and the complete kit

I appreciate the audio quality, simplicity and effectiveness of the system. I also appreciate how comprehensive the RØDE Wireless PRO kit is.

Battery life in my own use

Battery life has been excellent for my use: at the time of writing, I have not yet recharged it since buying it. That reflects my own usage; it is neither a measured recording time nor a battery-life promise for everyone.

The main drawback: weight on clothing

The transmitter can feel a little heavy when clipped directly to clothing. This is much less of an issue for me when using a lavalier microphone.
